The popularity of crossovers and SUVs is on the rise and Honda CR-V was one of the first compact SUVs that have been launched on the global market. The fans are eagerly waiting for the fifth-generation to arrive that will move this model one step further. We are talking about the 2020 Honda CR-V. What do we know about it at this point?
2020 Honda CR-V Exterior
First of all, it is important to know that the CR-V has taken a little something from various vehicles in the Honda lineup. For instance, the headlights resemble the one of the Civic, whereas they slightly resemble the ones from Acura as well. In the meantime, the rear end looks upscale with angled taillights but the general shape and size of the car is expected to remain the same.
New colors are expected and the buyers will have to choose from the palette of six different colors whereas the hybrid will be offered with a distinctive paint.
Interior of Honda CR-V
Inside the cabin, buyers will no longer have the problematic dual-screen setup. Instead, the company installed a single, larger touchscreen. Furthermore, the speedometer is replaced with a digital counterpart whereas the shifter will not been changed. Due to some other changes, passengers in the back will be more comfortable as legroom has grown by 2 inches.
The equipment depends on the trim but even the lowest-sitting car will get a decent number of accessories. Some of the equipment that will span across the range includes Honda Sensing Safety Suite, Android Auto, Apple Car Play, automatic rain-sensitive wipers and much more.
Engines
The CR-V LX will pack a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated I4 unit that delivers 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The other trims will have the Civic’s 1.5-liters turbocharged I4 that generates 190 ponies and 179 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are connected with a CVT.
Honda CR-V Diesel
There were some rumors that the new generation would come with a diesel engine. Fortunately or not, that will not happen and the Japanese company will go green instead. The electric drivetrains have the priority and while the company hasn’t said anything regarding the diesel engines, hardly will they put an effort to offer it in just a few markets.
2020 Honda CR-V Release Date
The 2020 Honda CR-V will most likely appear in late 2019 or early 2020 but the official release date has not been set at this point. First of all, the company has the plan to see how well the hybrid would behave in the countries around Europe. Once that comes to pass and the Japanese manufacturer is satisfied with the results, only then will they focus on the US market.
The fans are not going to wait too long because Honda has plans to introduce the Pilot SUV hybrid as well. They are working diligently to make that happen. Furthermore, the growing competition is another aspect they want to pay attention to and launch the 2020 Honda CR-V as soon as possible.
Pricing
Even though the upcoming CR-V will be the new generation, the changes should not be that drastic. And that means that the prices will not jump significantly and they will stay in more or less the same range. The LX model will be sold under $25,000. In the meantime the EX-L is expected to go over $30,000 whereas the CR-V Touring will get close to $35,000.
What do you think of the new Honda CR-V? We cannot wait to see the new car, especially the hybrid version which is why we are eager to hear your opinion. Also, stay tuned for more details.
