The home of Scuderia Ferrari blends high technology with a sense of tradition.
At one end of the factory site, the team’s innovatively designed full-scale windtunnel shows a high-tech face to the outside world. At the opposite side, Enzo Ferrari’s office still looks over the courtyard that cars must pass through to reach the Fiorano test track across the road.
Enzo Ferrari was born in nearby Modena in 1898. After racing cars himself, and managing Alfa Romeo’s race department, he founded Ferrari SpA in 1947. For a company badge he chose the prancing horse, an emblem his racing cars had been carrying as a good luck charm since 1923.
Famously, Ferrari only began to make road cars to fund his Scuderia. But they were always beautiful and crafted with love. That tradition lasts to this day, where in spite of increased mechanization the Ferrari badge still stands for hand-finished excellence.
The Ferrari name is synonymous with Formula 1&trade racing. It is the only team to have raced since the World Championship began in 1950, and it is the most successful of all time, having taken 15 Drivers’ Championships and 16 Constructors’ Championships.
